숙종 6년인 1680년 12월 22일 숙종의 어머니 명성 대비가 송시열에게 벼슬길에 나오기를 권고하는 전유(傳諭)를 한글로 써서 보냈다. 전유는 왕실에서 신하들이나 민간에 보내는 공문서를 일컫는다. 왕실 여성이 한글로 공문서를 작성한 것은 한글의 실용성을 높이는 계기가 되었다.
송시열은 숙종과의 갈등으로 벼슬을 내려도 돌아오지 않았다. 그러자 명성 대비가 돌아오라는 내용의 한글 편지를 직접 써 보냈던 것이다. 편지를 받은 송시열은 “이는 옛날 송나라의 선인 황후가 사마광을 만류했던 고사(古事)다.”라고 이야기했고 명성 대비의 은전에 감격하여 서울로 돌아왔다.

On December 22, 1680, in the 6th year of King Sukjong’s reign, Queen Myeongseong, the mother of King Sukjong, sent a jeonyu(royal decree) in Hangeul to Song Si-yeol, urging him to return to government service. Jeonyu refers to official documents sent by the royal family to officials or the public. For a royal woman to write an official document in Hangeul was a significant step in increasing the practical use of Hangeul.
Due to his conflicts with King Sukjong, Song Si-yeol had resigned from his position and refused to return. In response, Queen Myeongseong personally wrote a letter in Hangeul asking him to come back. Upon receiving the letter, Song Si-yeol remarked, “This is like the ancient story of the Song Dynasty’s Empress Huang, who persuaded Sima Guang to return,” and, moved by Queen Myeongseong’s grace, he returned to Seoul.

明聖王后のハングル公文書《明聖王后伝諭》
ハングルの実用性を高めたハングルの手紙、宋時烈（ソン・シヨル）が応じる

粛宗（スクチョン）6年である1680年12月22日、粛宗の母である明聖（ミョンソン）王后が宋時烈に官職に就くよう勧告する伝諭（でんゆ）をハングルで書いて送った。伝諭とは、王室から臣下や民間に送る公文書を指す。王室の女性がハングルで公文書を作成したことは、ハングルの実用性を高める契機となった。
宋時烈は粛宗との葛藤により、官職を辞しても戻らなかった。すると、明聖王后が戻るようにという内容のハングルの手紙を直接書いて送ったのである。手紙を受け取った宋時烈は「これは昔、宋の宣仁（せんじん）皇后が司馬光（しばこう）を引き留めた故事である」と語り、明聖王后の恩恵に感激してソウル（漢陽）に戻った。
